Three cutting-edge sneakers to choose from
In line with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Nike launched three new sneakers that will be worn by athletes to further improve their performance. These three new sneakers include the Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT%, the Air Zoom BB NXT, and the Space Hippie.
The Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% is an evolution of Nike’s cutting-edge Vaporfly franchise, which is known to help runners like Eliud Kipchoge break records. Fun fact: when he broke the 2-hour marathon record last October, he was wearing a prototype version of the Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT%.
Part of the NEXT% platform, the Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% has a thicker ZoomX cushioning for minimizing energy loss, a full-length carbon fiber plate for better stability, and Zoom Air Pods on the forefoot area for added cushioning and improved energy return. Completing the sneaker is an AtomKnit upper fopr better foot lockdown.
Next up, the Air Zoom BB NXT comes with an all-new cushioning system that consists of an Air Zoom pod system, lightweight mesh upper, exposed full-length React foam, and a stabilizing plate above the React foam.
Completing the trio is the Space Hippie, an exploratory footwear collection that makes use of scrap material from factory floors into unique sneakers, with four designs to choose from. The collection is Nike’s effort in reducing its carbon footprint and to reimagine solutions to current environmental problems.
Breaking down the design of the shoe, the Space Hippie’s upper is made from “space waste yarn”, which comprises of 100 percent recycled material. The cushioning uses factory ZoomX scraps from the production of the Vaporfly 4%, wherein it uses about half the CO2e as typical Nike foams. Lastly, the crater foam is made from a mix of standard Nike foams and 15 percent Nike Grind Rubber. Just like the repurposed ZoomX cushioning, the production of the crater foam has a lower carbon footprint compared to Nike’s usual production process.
The Nike Air Zoom BB NXT will be available on July 1 while the Space Hippie 01, 02, 03 and 04 will be available this Spring.
