As part of its 30th anniversary, Nike is launching several Air Max 90 colorways that include some of the OG colorways and fresh, new colorways. Aside from bringing back the OG shape of the Air Max 90—something that sneaker purists definitely love—Nike is also reimagining the Air Max 90 in a modern context. One of these new models is the Air Max 2090.
First seen on LeBron James’ feet, the Air Max 2090 has traces of the Air Max 90’s design elements that include the shape of the toebox, the mudguard panel, the Air Max midsole—which is 200% bigger than the OG—and the back tab. Modern interpretations to the sneaker include an enlarged Swoosh on the lateral side, modernized Air branding on the heel tab and lateral side of the mudguard panel, and a React Element 87-like upper. As for the outsole, the area around the Air Max unit takes design cues from the Air Max 270, completing the overall futuristic look of this sneaker.
The Air Max 2090 is expected to drop this Spring (anywhere between March to July).
