Nike continues its tradition of releasing Chinese New Year-themed footwear with 2020’s Year of the Rat collection. For this year, Nike incorporated various designs from the last four Year of the Rat cycles, which correlate with Nike’s history in China.
To recap: 1972 is Nike’s founding year, where it debut the iconic Cortez.
For 1984, Nike started its partnership with China by sponsoring the country’s track and field team for the Los Angeles Olympics.
Come 1996, the China’s mens basketball secured a quarterfinal finish at the Atlanta Olympics while the said year saw a number of iconic Nike sneakers like the Air More Uptempo and Air Jordan 11.
In 2008, Beijing hosted the summer Olympics—a first for the country, while Nike debuted the Hyperdunk for both Team USA and Team China.
