We really hope Wotherspoon changes his mind
In the sneaker of the year 2018 debate, it was a mixed crowd: some consider the React Element 87 as the top sneaker of 2018, while other consider Sean Wotherspoon’s Air Max 97/1 as the top dog. While there are many chances to get the former thanks to new colorways, the latter might be a one-off affair.
In an interview with Complex, Wotherspoon said that he is “done working with [Nike], at least on another SW collab, for a while.” That’s amidst rumors that a second Air Max 97/1 colorway—one with a University Blue corduroy upper—is in the works.
While it is easy to say that Wotherspoon is not releasing any collabs, there’s still hope for big fans of his design: currently, he is working on an upcoming collab with Guess. Photos of the sample pair look to be very promising, as Wotherspoon experiments with different layers of mesh this time around.
As for the lone Sean Wotherspoon Air Max 97/1 that dropped last year? Expect resell prices to go up significantly—unless Wotherspoon decides to release the other Air Max 97/1 colorway.
