The Shoe for Multiple Occasions
The Cole Haan 2.ZEROGRAND is a versatile and modernized “upgrade” from the first generation ZEROGRAND shoes of Cole Haan. They made a big departure from the original design so that they could differentiate themselves in a market that’s being flooded with wingtip brogued shoes. The new design is fashionably unique but it still manages delivers the same level of running-shoe level comfort that made Cole Haan famous globally.
The upper is made of glossy leather that gives a great shine if you consistently condition and take care of your shoes. There are a lot of color options to choose from that are monochromatic or offer contrasts to make the shoe pop a little more when worn. I bought two for myself: black/blue and white/black.
Thinking of getting a third pair that’s just solid black. I mean look at this beaut!
Instead of the traditional wingtip broguing, they went with a laser perforated upper that gives it a unique look compared to a lot of other casual dress shoes that are out in the market. The perforations aren’t just for styling though. Combined with the Integrated Motion Outsole and Flex Welt, this delivers fantastic and unrestricted movement and flexibility.
Speaking of comfort, Cole Haan really went all out.
Inside the shoe and underneath it, we have the Grand.OS technology. The dynamic energy foam helps propel each part of the foot which is similar to how the foams of running and athletic shoes work. The footbed also does a fantastic job of cushioning with great weight distribution and moisture control. The zonal tongue and achilles padding gives great support and comfort for the heel. Lastly we have the Comfort Fitsock that embraces and cradles the foot.
How is it compared to an adidas Ultra Boost? The Ultra Boost is way ahead in comfort but it’s amazing how Cole Haan was still able to find a balance between sneaker / running shoes comfort and the design requirements of a classic leather dress shoe.
All Around Shoe
The Cole Haan 2.ZEROGRAND Laser Wingtip Oxford Review is versatile and you can wear it in a variety of occasions. It’s best though for smart casual though it’s also great for night outs. For more formal wear though you’ll have to stick to your classic leather oxfords or monk straps as this still gives a semi-sneakerish vibe, especially with loud colored outsoles.
Sizing: Get a Half Size Up
The shoe though has two main issues: sizing and the price.
Due to the closed-lace design and the SockFit, make sure you get +0.5 up in size. If you’re a size 10, get a size 10.5. True to size can be tight or can prove difficult to wear. I made this mistake myself. My first pair was true to size and it was too snug. The next pair I got was just a perfect a half size up.
As for the price, the local SRP is a staggering Php16,000-Php18,000. That’s bordering on highway robbery, haha! If you want to get one though, this weekend (until tomorrow) is your best bet as all Cole Haan stores in the country are doing a massive “up to 50% sale”.
And that wraps up our review of the Cole Haan 2.ZEROGRAND Laser Wingtip Oxford. We suggest you also read our full review of the Cole Haan Washington Grand Laser Wingtip Oxfords. It’s a more formal take on this shoe that’s great for the office.
