Fresh and Ginormous Gastronomic Seafood Platters from El Rey De La Gamba

Lobster? Check. Tiger Prawns? Check. Clams? Check. Squid? Check. Add to that a variety of fish and you have the epic seafood platter being offered by El Rey De La Gamba in Barcelona, Spain. These seafood platters are so insanely good and huge that Aquaman would probably have an issue with the owner of the restaurant serving them. I mean seriously, take a look at it. It looks bigger than the body of my wife in the photo below!

The restaurant that serves this gastronomic treat is El Ray De La Gamba, a restaurant along Passeig Joan Borbó, which is the street that’s just beside the shoreline. The restaurant itself isn’t too fancy and the waiters are actually a bit snobbish (lol) but the food is superb so we ended up eating here several times during our stay in Barcelona. Regarding the serivce, the waiters eventually warmed up after seeing us there a few times and they started greeting us with warm smiles and made sure we were attended to.

Anyway, back to the food. When you’re here, skip the Tapas. We tried a few and they weren’t as good as the ones that we had in the various Tapas bars in the city. You go here mainly for the seafood. The platter above is the main dish that we would recommend and it can easily feed 3-4 people. They sell it for roughly 35 euros (around Php1,750). It has generous servings of tiger prawns, clams, and fish. It also has a lobster and a slab of squid meat on top.

Other than the platter we also recommend that you try out their Chipirones. What you get here are baby squids cooked in their own ink and various sauces. This dish is a fantastic appetizer and someone should start selling them here in the Philippines.

Chipirones. My wife loved 'em.

They also have Paella and we liked theirs more than the Paella we tried in a lot of other restaurants because they used the same kind of rice that we use in the Philippines. Most of the other Paella in other restaurants had harder rice grains.

Anyway, if you guys find yourselves in Barcelona, check out El Rey De La Gamba. We highly recommend it!
